UNUSED LIFT OR ESCALATOR OR PASSENGER CONVEYORS AND REPORT OF ACCIDENTS IN LIFTS OR ESCALATOR OR PASSENGER CONVEYORS

Unused lift or escalator or passenger conveyors:-

When a Lift or Escalator or Passenger conveyor installed at any place ceases to be used as such, the owner shall either remove it after obtaining dismantling permission from the Inspector of Lifts, Escalators and Passenger conveyors or maintain it in a safe mechanical condition after disconnecting it entirely from the electric supply under intimation to the Inspector of Lifts, Escalators and Passenger conveyors and to the Chief Inspector of Lifts, Escalators and Passenger conveyors. All gates and doors shall be effectively locked so as to prevent the entry of unauthorized persons to the lift well.

Report of Accidents:–

Where any accident occurs in the operations of any lift or escalator or passenger conveyor which results or was likely to result in injury to any person, the owner of the building in which the lift or escalator or passenger conveyor is working or if such owner has appointed an agent and has communicated his name to the Inspector of Lifts, Escalators & Passenger conveyors , such agent shall, as soon as may be, after such accident give notice with full details of the accident to the authorized officer and also to the Commissioner of Police and the District Magistrate . The lift or escalator or passenger conveyor installation shall not be interfered within any way and the working of such lift or escalator or passenger conveyor shall not be resumed except with the written permission of the Chief Inspector of Lifts, Escalators & Passenger conveyors. A report of any accident in the operation of any lift or escalator or passenger conveyor shall be informed by the owner or his agent to all the concerned authorities for investigation within twenty four hours of the occurrence of the accident over telephone and shall also send a detailed report within forty eight hours in Form K along with report of registered person .

The owner of every building in which a lift or escalator or passenger conveyor has been installed may, and if such owner does not reside in such building shall, appoint an agent who shall be a resident in the town or village in which the building situated, to give notice of any accident occurring in the operation of the lift or escalator or passenger conveyor. The name of every agent appointed, shall be communicated to the authorized officer.
